Mountaineering activities available in Sierra Nevada:
This ascent considered easy within the technical routes of Sierra Nevada is an easier alternative to the crowded Canuto del Veleta, it is considered with a difficulty of Little Difficult, (250m, PD). The route goes up to the Positions of the Veleta and descends through the Veredón until the Corral del Veleta, in this hole we can contemplate the majesty of the Canuto del Veleta (one of the classic routes of Sierra Nevada). We will leave this route aside going by a half slope until we reach the foot of the Canuto Norte de los Machos. We will continue along this simple route to the top of Los Machos, reaching the top of one of the three thousand emblematic mountains of Sierra Nevada. From there we will go down the southern slope to the Refugio de la Carihuela, from where we will begin the descent to the starting point.
Maximum group: 2 people.
El Cartujo is one of the most accessible “three thousand” in Sierra Nevada. Although it is not a complicated mountain, on its north face we can enjoy a beautiful ascent up a rock and snow ridge that culminates in the summit of this mountain at 3152m altitude. It is a good proposal for anyone who wants to try a slightly more technical ascent. We could say that it is an intermediate level mountaineering proposal in Sierra Nevada. The route, of moderate difficulty, alternates rock steps with snow slopes. Depending on the conditions of the route, there may even be some short rappelling. The final section is a slope of snow and ice until reaching the top of the mountain. From here we have spectacular views of the neighboring mountains, the Caballo to the West and the Elorrieta to the East.
Maximum group: 2 people.
This ascent can be done with or without cross-country skis depending on the type of activity you are most interested in doing and your level of skiing. It is a very interesting ascent to the second highest peak of the Sierra Nevada, for which we will need basic mountaineering equipment since the winter environment of this mountain forces us to have basic technical knowledge of progression in high mountains, which will be taught to throughout the activity. It is a very within reach of those interested in mountaineering who are considering climbing a peak in winter conditions for the first time.
You will be able to reach the 3,396 meters of its summit and overcome what is a challenge for many hikers, mountaineers and mountain lovers. The route begins in the Hoya de la Mora, passing through the Virgen de las Nieves, to then go looking for the positions of the Veleta where we will have magnificent views of its north wall, although our route will run along the normal route, much easier. We can qualify the route with a grade of F (easy).
Duration: 1 day.
Maximum group: 6 people.
Reaching the summit of Veleta through the corridor of its North Face, is one of the most alpine activities that Sierra Nevada offers us. The route begins in the Hoya de la Mora, then we have to gain the Positions of the Veleta to, from there, descend to the Corrales del Veleta, in this place we will have impressive views of the north walls of this mountain. From there we have an aerial journey in snow that places us at the bottom of the channel or north corridor, with a slope of about 50 degrees. The summit will be reached by a well-known climb: the ´Fidel-Fierro´ which offers us small grade III steps in good rock and which leaves us at the same geodesic vertex as the Veleta summit. It is an activity with a difficulty of AD-. This itinerary is a classic of the Sierra that you cannot miss.
Duration: 1 day.
Maximum group: 2 people.
The Mulhacén with its 3,478 meters. It is the highest summit of Sierra Nevada and of the Iberian Peninsula, only surpassed in Spain by Teide. Its ascent by the normal route does not entail hardly any difficulties, although it is almost always necessary to use mountaineering equipment to be able to reach its summit in winter. We will leave Capileira with the car and we will leave it in the high ditch or in the Hoya del Portillo to leave for the Poqueira Refuge through the “Acequia Alta” or through the “Alto del Chorrillo”, respectively. The ascent to the refuge will take us about 2-3 hours. The next day we will ascend to the Laguna de la Caldera, from where we will begin the ascent to Mulhacén. We will descend to the refuge through the Loma del Mulhacén, in which we will also hole the top of Mulhacén II.
Elije si quieres realizar la ascensión con esquís o andando (necesario el uso de piolet y crampones).
Program:
